Kijiji Presents: Payback Time

Meet Max Karpinccho – disgraced former K-Car race champion, moonshine whiskey enthusiast, maintains a tough guy exterior but helps little old ladies across the street when no one’s looking.

His rival? Bolt Lundgren – infamous playboy from Great Lakes Brewery, known cheat, once stole candy from a baby.

They meet again to fuel their long time racing rivalry. What’s on the line, you ask? Oh nothing much, except one man’s pride, righteousness and integrity. No big deal.

For Bolt, it’s about hanging on to his past glory. Though he cheated when he won the last race, winning this rematch would be his chance to show that he truly is the K-Car race champion. And what’s Max’s motivation to win? The chance to put Bolt in his place for once and for all, and to see his name written down in the record books as the ultimate champion.

Who will be the King of Comebacks?
Who will win the race? Who will get the girl? And who will suffer the ultimate twist of fate?

But more importantly, what’s in it for you?

This K-Car is going to experience the ultimate comeback , going from the streets right to some lucky buyer. Yes, be the highest bidder and that lean, mean, muscle machine can be yours for keeps. Go ahead, put an offer on it… if you dare. This isn’t your mother’s mini-van.

Kijiji will match the highest bid and then turn around and donate the total amount to Habitat for Humanity. (And yes, we’ll scrape Max’s sweat and tears off the windshield before we deliver it to you. Oh, and we’ll also replace the ignition for convenience sake.)

Is there anything you can’t do in a K-Car?

Just think about all those things you could do if only you had the K-Car and share them with us (keep them PG rated, please!) by commenting below!

Then do your part to help the K-Car make the ultimate comeback. Check out the K-Car deets here. Or find out about any of the other millions of items making comebacks on Kijiji here. Who knows? You could be the next Comeback King … or Queen!

Father’s Day

It can be hard to know what to do or buy for Father’s Day. The best gifts are always something personal and thoughtful – but that is easier said than done! If you’re stumped, here are a few ideas for some of the different types of dads out there!

Think about how dad likes to spend his time when choosing a Father's Day gift or celebration!

Think about how dad likes to spend his time when choosing a Father’s Day gift or celebration!

The Foodie – is your dad always thinking about his next delicious meal? Why not look up some recipes and treat him to something delicious? If you aren’t confident in the kitchen or on the BBQ, you can always get him some new BBQ accessories, or, if he isn’t wanting for more stuff, something consumable. Consider something outside of what he would normally buy, but would enjoy! We love bacon marmalade, new varieties of hot sauce, and local microbrewery beer!

The Artist – is your dad always thinking about improving his photography, serenading you with impromptu songs, or making home movies? Why not help showcase his creations? You could frame up his photographs, help him record his music, or set up a family viewing for his favorite home movies he’s made with video cameras over the years (with snacks and refreshments, of course)!

The Mechanic – dad always tinkering in the garage on cars, small engines, electronics and all things mechanical? Consider getting him some new tools – a high quality tool always comes in handy! If he has set up shop in the garage, shed, or a similar space, you could also consider getting him some fun decor for his man cave – preferably, something fun that mom won’t allow in the rest of the house!

The Professor – does your father always have his nose in a book? Some interesting literature would be a great gift, or, consider getting him a functional yet stylish new lamp for his favorite chair to enhance his reading experience.

The Sports Fan – can he usually be found in close proximity to the game, or sports equipment? Consider joining a sports league with him, or getting him tickets to his favorite event! Some new gear to replace some that is getting tired, or, to try an entirely new sport is also a good idea.

What are you planning for this Father’s Day?

The Video Game Console History Infographic

Earlier in the week, Microsoft revealed the new Xbox One and with the next generation of consoles ready to launch, Kijiji takes a look back at the evolution of the gaming console.

Since 1976, there have been great battles over which gaming console is the most superior. Until 1982, Fairchild Channel F, Atari 2600, Magnavox Odyssey, intellivison, and the Atari 5200 all vied to become the gaming console of choice.  Back then, gaming consoles cost between $200 and $300.  Many considered the Atari 2600 to be the system to own with over 30 million units in sold, though who could forget Pac-Man (over 7 million copies sold).

With the announcement of the Xbox One, the next generation of the gaming console wars is about to begin. Sony strategically released an out-of-focus video clip of the new Playstation days before the Xbox One announcement.

The Xbox and Playstation have been fighting for video game supremacy over the years and have sparked many arguments over which console is better. Which next generation console will you be purchasing?

Do you have a ColecoVision or an Atari 2600 lying around the house? The ColecoVision retailed for $199 USD in 1982 and is now being sold for as much as $350 on Kijiji.

Mother’s Day Activities

Want to have a special Mother’s Day, but don’t have a large budget? Don’t fret – the best gift is quality time spent together.

Show mom you care by planning a special day for her!

The best mother’s day gift is quality time.

Moms spend so much time making sure their families are fed and looked after – take the opportunity to return the favor, and let her put her feet up and relax! Here are a few meal options to create a special Mother’s Day.

Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Plenty of trays are available on Kijiji, which make it easy to surprise mom with a morning treat! Not a skilled cook? Look for fresh fruit and veggies from local farmers and prepare a delicious fruit salad to serve with yogurt or granola on the side.

Family brunch! Pancakes or French toast are simple and easy to make for a larger group. For a memorable experience, look after all the details to create a nice environment. Get fancy and press the table linens and decorate with some freshly cut spring flowers for mum, or, buy some plants to pot or plant, which will last all summer (or beyond).

Pack a picnic! There is lots of picnic gear to choose from Kijiji. Grab an old tablecloth, prepare a smorgasbord, and treat your mum to a lovely lunch among trees and flowers. The basket itself makes a great gift for Mother’s Day (remember to carry it to and from the destination, and do all the clean-up).

Share in her interests. If your mom has a special hobby, Sunday is a great time to share it with her. If not, there plenty of other ways to spend time together:

Go for a garden stroll! Mother’s day is an ideal time to view the spring flowers in bloom. If the weather is clear, it’s a perfect time to go to a botanical garden, or a city park with gardens, depending on what is available near you.

Does your mom love to give back to the community? Check out local volunteer opportunities in your community.

Does your family enjoy playing sports together? Play a round-robin of badminton or tennis, or, if you have a large family, try organizing a team activity.

Don’t have the funds to take mom to the spa? Pamper her at home by giving her a manicure. If you don’t have the set up, you can find beauty supplies on Kijiji (be sure to disinfect any second hand materials).

If you don’t have a big budget to spend on fancy gifts, spend your time planning and preparing a special day for her and the family. A handmade card and a lovely day spent together is really what Mother’s Day is all about.
