Housing Category Improvements

We’ve made a few changes in the Housing category on the Kijiji home page to serve you better….New Updates to Housing

The categories have been differentiated based on whether they’re for rent/ for sale. Of course, we’ve made the same changes on the French version of the site as well.

We’ve also added a couple of additional categories – condos for sale and land for sale.  The previous standalone category, Vacation rentals, has been collapsed and introduced within ‘for rent’.

These changes have been made to help you categorize and find your ads more easily. Housing is one of our top categories and we’re going to be making additional changes in the coming months to serve you better.

    Great improvements! I'm a huge kijiji fan and user. I would like to see under "Houses for sale" a separate listing for people that would like to list privately, so "Private sales" and one for real estate users, "Real estate agents listings". Something like that to distinguish which category you would like to search under.

    Hi, I'm also a huge kijiji user. Under house and land for sale it would be great to see a separate category for private listings and one for real estate agents. The real estate people have full swing of MLS and now are taking over on Kijiji.It would be SO nice for them to have a separate spot so that real kijiji users can use it as it was meant for. Same would go for the cars for sale category (private versus dealers).

    I hear everyone on the real estate having there own heading. Why are they allowed to list with someone that is trying to sell there home by themselves, with out real estate? Not fair to me when they have there own site and they won't let me advertise on there site, even though leagally I can purchase a MLS listing on there site. No one will sell me a listing. Why did they change the laws in Canada if they are not going to make agents sell the MLS listings to the public since it is now legally allowed. Why not have a heading FOR SALE BY OWNER, and one FOR SALE BY REAL ESTATE. Like example Donna Conrad is a Real Estate Kijiji Hog rom Remax. I list my home then she will go ist like 40 and push my ad pages back, I HATE THAT!, and there is also agents in Windsor doing the same thing. KIJIJI STOP THE MADNESS, Separate the headings.

    YES PLEASE!! a separate Real Estate Agent and For Sale By Owner page. AL Cosentino is the culprit in my city. Gets his staff to repost all of his listings every couple days and pushes everything a least a page or two. It has become another MLS.

    Thanks for your feedback. We’re looking at making some additional changes in the Real estate category which will make it easier to search for ads with some more options. Stay tuned :)

    @abigal – If you look at the vehicle section their is a For Sale by – "Private" and "Dealer" which allows you to filter. I think this was a great addition.

    HI again, I also think Kijiji should offer a sign for people to put on their front lawn to let people know the house is listed on Kijiji. I'm sure lots of people would buy this sign, especially if it was reasonably priced. I have my own "house for sale" sign on my lawn, but alot of people don't know it's listed as well on Kijiji. Just leave a section for writing your phone number on for people.

      Hi Tanya. Thanks for the feedback. As we improve this category this is one thing we've been thinking about. When people are home hunting the value of a sign with a drive to website with pictures/info is huge. You see a lot of personalized websites now with listing info, or QR codes that drive to the specific listing.

      We are looking at this. One thing that makes this more complicated for us is how do we hold inventory in 'for sale' signs, how do we these manage orders, shipping, returns of these signs. There are tens of thousands of listings in real estate so managing this many signs would be…… complicated :) (we're better managing a website then fulfillment of signage :) )

      That said, we're looking at what we could do to improve the experience in this space, and this part is an important factor. Stay tuned!

    Why can't people provide their own signs and put them on their lawns stating that they are advertised on kijiji if they want to have it known that they are on kijiji that shouldn't be a problem there are companys that make signs they could even make a business of it selling signs to those that want to use them to advertise that they are advertised on kijiji Marg

    I used Sparklin' Clean on Kijiji's Deal of the Day…waste of money…the name of the business now is Nancy's Cleanin…Baseboards were to be cleaned were not, bathroom fixtures looked like they were wiped with a dirty rag, etc. Feedback should be available like Ebay to caution people about these businesses. No wonder she changed her business name.

    FOR SALE: kijiji already has vehicle "for sale by" owner/dealer — you just have to select the hyperlink you want — the same could go for sale by owner/agent.

    I forsee kijiji as the new MLS now that proximity searches are getting easier and maps have satelite option.

    RENTALS:
    please add multi-unit, duplex-style, flat, or something to that effect to stop posters advertising a main floor unit or even a basement unit as a house for rent and maybe change the wording "house rental" to "self-contained house rental" for those who refuse to understand the difference

    I have had a beef with the "houses for rent" category for quite a while: posters continue to post here when they know their ads are miscategorized and belong in "rooms for rent/roomates" or apartment/condo/duplex/flat

    miscategorized ad suggestion (a frequent problem in House Rental ads)

    to assist those trying to help with order by using the Report-Ad functionality:
    kijiji administrators could potentially save time on these reportings by adding to certain select categories such as house rental, a function to "miscategorized" providing a drop-down with one or two suggested categories in addition to one for "other" which may or may not contain a short char fill-in (and for that matter for sale by owner/agent, where an agent is advertising as an owner, and for advertised free items which are not)

    One feature we need is a " Student Rental Section" As a pensioner, when I look for accommadation within my price range, I find i must sort through too many "student" accommodations. this is a problem for a lot of single and low income people. I have suggested this before and would really like to see it incorporated into Kijiji.

    There is some discrimination going on such as working people only or no children alowed ot working people only. Also whats with the high rental rates. I guess we are paying for peoples mortgage paym,ents on their homes. once you pay off their mortgages then they will own their houses out right thats just not right. Another beef I have is no pets alowed! no wonder people take their pets to the humane society! I think More people should complain to the human rights commision about these issues. Also go to the federal government about the high rental rates. There good people out there that deserve a fair chance to live in a whole house too you know. I,m sure a lot of people would agree with these issues. Thank You for listening. I think Kijiji should be checking out these postings.
